About "The Urns" (6:47 min.)

In Theresienstadt, thousands of people died of malnutrition, exhaustion, hunger and disease. The dead were cremated, and their ashes were put in small cardboard urns, many of which were stored in the casemates under the camp. Toward the end of the war, the Nazis wanted to destroy any evidence of how many people died in Theresienstadt. The chapter is about the day when the children of the camp are sent down to the casemates to empty them of the urns. They stand side by side in the corridors and pass the cardboard urns from hand to hand.
