About "Introduction" (2:12 min.)

In this chapter, Birgit, Bjørn, Jytte, Poul, Rachel and Salle begin their stories. They tell about life before the war: family, friends, spare time, and school. And they share their thoughts about being Jewish – what it means in their families. For some, religion plays a major role; they observe the Jewish holy days, follow the special Jewish dietary laws, and attend services in the synagogue.  For others, religion does not have great significance, and they do not think much about being Jewish in their daily lives. None of them have experienced antisemitism – prejudice and hatred toward Jews – during childhood, a time they describe as secure and normal.
