In the Bazarny Syzgan district, 64 persons out of 200 (or 32% of the entire party organisation) were expelled from the party organisation under the rubric of “enemies of the people and their accomplices”. Out of 64 persons thus expelled, 27 persons were expelled under the rubric og “enemies of the people” and 37 were expelled under the rubric of “accomplices of enemies of the people”. From these 37 classified as “accomplices of enemies of the people”, the NKVD [det hemmelige politi] and the procuracy were able to arrest only 5 persons, while materials were lacking in the case of the remaining 32 persons in order to carry out punitive measures against them. Expulsion from the party was conducted mostly at party meetings without a preliminary evaluation and on the basis of speeches made by individual members og the VKP(b).
Such a wholesale and massive expulsion from the party was carried out in the main by Tiuftin, former secretary of the district committee of the VKP(b) (who I currently under arrest). Tiuftin at first worked as second secretary of the district committee, along with Sevian, secretary of the district committee. After the latter’s expulsion from the party and arrest, he was elected first secretary of the district committee and, in order to mask [his intentions], he began to expel from the party all those persons who were the subject of unverified allegations concerning their connections with enemies of the people. During his tenure as first secretary of the district committee, 37 persons were expelled. These expulsions were justified by alleging that these persons were “enemies of the people and their accomplices”.
